How To Apply Henna For Hair and Beard

Please read these instructions carefully before using this natural product for your hair, brows, beard and/or mustache. Keep in mind that you may need to experiment at first until you determine ideal mixing and application techniques for you. Application is simple once you know the process, and below we provide extensive guidelines. We recommend you perform a spot or strand test to before full application. Please be patient, your hair, scalp, skin, and health will thank you, plus you’ll look great, naturally!

Start by covering any surfaces that might stain: carpets, woods, fabrics, counters, etc. Cover clothes with a hair cape, smock, or old towel when applying. Open the outer package carefully removing contents. The powder is green colored for all hair colors, its natural plants! Use only what you need to cover your hair or beard that you are coloring. You may save the rest for up to two years in a sealed, cool, dry, dark place.

Mixing is easy. Simply open the 100 gram powder package. Using a clean bowl and spoon, add the amount of powder you need to the bowl. Slowly add hot/warm water along with a teaspoon or two of lemon juice or vinegar while stirring until you get a yoghurt consistency. There is no exact amount of water so go slowly until it is thin enough to apply easily, but thick enough to stick to your hair and beard. The paste has a natural grassy scent, you can add an essential oil of your choice to mask the scent if you wish.

Let the mixed paste sit for 30 minutes stirring every 5-10 minutes before applying to allow the natural dyes to be released from the powder. If the mix gets dry add more water and stir. While waiting, wash your hair, brows, beard and mustache twice with a natural soap/shampoo, to be clean and free of oils or conditioners before applying. No need to completely dry your hair, towel dry, but not soaking wet.

Wearing the supplied gloves, divide your hair into 4 sections (front, back, left & right) applying one section at a time.

Scoop up the paste with your fingers, patting it on your hair from the roots to the ends being sure each section is thoroughly coated. You should apply a thick coat to your hair, brows, beard, and/or mustache. Push the paste into your beard coating them thoroughly. If the paste is not touching the hair or beard, it will not color them. It will look like you have a lot of mud on your head and face if done correctly. If coloring your hair, use the supplied hair cap to cover your hair completely to retain heat and moisture. ( I like to wrap my hair with plastic wrap for a tighter hold ). Then I wear a beanie or a scarf to keep my head warm and to look semi normal again while wait for the henna to work it's magic :)

Leave on for at least 2 hours for light results and 3-4 hours for better color results, especially first time users. The longer you leave the paste on, the better color and conditioning. You can go to sleep and wake up the next morning to rinse if you desire. Colors will vary with each person depending on the hair color you begin with and the condition of your hair. This is a natural color, so it takes longer than chemical based products, but it is worth it, so be patient. You may be able to shorten the time as you learn how the product works for you. The paste will not stain your skin.

Rinse hair and face with warm or hot water to remove paste. This may take a while with longer hair, so be patient. You can condition twice, if desired, after using the product, but we do not recommended using shampoo for 24 hours. For best results, use only natural, sulfate free shampoos, so the color will not be prematurely stripped out of your hair. During the first several days after coloring, you may notice some color coming out when you shampoo, this is normal.

TIPS: Using a hair dryer for 10 - 15 minutes after rinsing out will give better color results. It can take up to 24 - 48 hours for the color to fully develop. The more often you use this product, the better your color and conditioning will be. It can even be used multiple times in the same day. Totally safe and natural!

NOTES: Your hair and beard are like fingerprints, everyone’s are different. If you have stubborn grey it may require multiple applications of this product, or you may require a 2 Step Process where you apply pure henna first, rinse, then apply your desired hair color second.

First Time Covering Gray Hair:  A two-step process may be required for covering your gray hair. Mix ½ the Henna powder and apply it to the roots only, cover and leave it on for 2 hours. Rinse it out and mix and apply the other half of the paste to your entire head, leave the second application on for another 2 hours. Gray hairs may appear brassy with only one application but will darken each time you apply the Henna. Remember henna is good for your hair so you can apply it as often as you need to.
