Who is behind OH So Halal?
Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmat'Allah Wa Barakaatahu,
My name is Rana, and I'm a mother of four beautiful children
who have changed and challenged my life in so many ways.
What prompted me to start searching out and learning more
about the healing of our Prophet's (Peace be upon Him) medicine, is the fact
that all four of my children suffer from allergies, eczema, asthma ect. After
years of following doctors’ advice, giving them every medication on the market,
I found that none of them were working to relieve my children of their
allergies. In fact, they were getting worse. I decided, enough is enough! It is
up to me to make a radical change in my kids’ lives.
This is how I came to slowly detoxify my home of harmful
chemicals and started to follow the Quran and the Sunnah way of healing. I had
come to realize that many of our modern ailments that affect us are brought
about by a lack of faith and weakness of belief in our Creator.
I know speaking for myself; I was so used to running to the
doctor for prescription medicines, even though most of them had a lot of
negative side effects to them. I thought I had no other option. I had totally
neglected and didn't even realize the importance of the Sunnah way of healing
and living. Allah The Almighty has clearly indicated to mankind that:
"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad) you have a good example to
follow for him who hopes for Allah and the Last Day and Remembers Allah much".
(Qur'an, 33:21)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a guide, and mercy for all of
humankind, and as such was given wisdom by Allah The Almighty that is
beneficial to humanity. Allah the Almighty says:
"O Mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord and a
healing for that which is in your breasts, a guidance, and mercy for the
believers". (Qur'an, 10:57)
My journey started with learning more about the Blessed Black Seed (Nigella
Sativa) because I had heard the hadith that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
said: 'Use this black seed, as it cures every disease, except
death'. I then started buying a collection of Islamic medicine books
to increase my knowledge of this blessed sunnah that I had neglected for so
long. After going back to living the Sunnah way of life as much as
possible, I’ve come to understand that the medicine of the Prophet (peace be
upon him) is not restricted to spiritual healing alone. In fact, it balances
the healing of the soul and the physical body in order to prepare man for a
better life in the Hereafter.
Sheikh Khidir from Toronto, Canada once gave a very
beautiful example on the importance of following the ways (Sunnah) of Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said that Sunnah is like medicine. Usually,
when we visit the doctors for treatment, they write on the prescriptions the
medicines we need. We take these prescriptions to pharmacists who then sell the
medicines to us. Sometimes these medicines are bitter and hard to swallow, but
we still consume them as we know that the cure is in them. Similarly, each and
every Sunnah has physical and spiritual cure for us in this world and in the
hereafter. Even if some Sunnah’s are hard to follow, we should still follow
them as the cure is in them.
"...So take what the Messenger gives you, and refrain from what he
prohibits you..." Al Quran 59:7
Since I have implemented the Sunnah way of life
regarding our health and I am happy to tell you since doing all this and
of course only with the permission of Allah Almighty, my kids suffer much less
from their ailments Alhumdullilah. I understand that healing naturally is a
slow process and believe with all my heart that complete (shifa) healing, is
possible with the guidance of following the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
Change is always hard and needs a strong will, time and
effort; but if my family and I take one step at a time, we will be able to
gradually achieve a healthy and happy lifestyle that (most importantly)
conforms to Islamic teachings.
