Referenced in Prophetic Medicine (Islamic Medicine), Qust Al-Hindi is a natural aid that can help support cold and flu symptoms, immune system, and general well-being.  

Indian Costus or Qust al-Hind (also known as Qist, Qust al Hindi, Costul Hind, Kuth, Kushta, or by its botanical name Saussurea Lappa). It is used to treat health issues such as asthma, migraines, allergies, stomach issues, skin issues, and male sexual issues. 

Can also be used for Ruqya to expel magic or jinn.

1. In Arabic it is called Qust.

2. In English it is called Costus.

3. In Hindi & Sanskrit it is called Kusth.

4. In Latin it is called Saussurea lappa.

Mentioned in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ namely Tibb Nabawi (i.e. Medicine of the Prophet ﷺ) it was mentioned as having 7 cures:

The Messenger ﷺ said, "Use this 'Oud al-Hindi (Indian Costus) because it contains 7 types of cures, it is sniffed by the one having throat trouble and is put inside the mouth of one suffering from pleurisy". [Saheeh al-Bukhari (5692)].

There are many ways to use Oud Qust al Hindi (Costus Root). It can be sniffed, made into a drink with honey and water, burnt on coals, inhaled via smoke or mixed/infused into oil to rub onto the body, or made into nose drops.

How to take Qust al Hindi:

As a general tonic: 1tsp Costus powder, 1tsp Honey in warm water, ideally on an empty stomach, once a day.

It is used to treat; stomach pains, stomach upsets, diarrhea, constipation, cholesterol, high blood pressure, asthma, breathing problems, cleanses the womb, increases fertility, strengthens muscles after labor, contracts the womb, aids weight loss (take twice daily, morning and evening), diabetes (without the honey).

As a skin treatment: 1tsp Costus powder, and 1tsp Honey, mix together and apply to the skin surface. Leave for 2 hours and then rinse off.

It is used to treat; acne, pimples, spots, scars, burns, nappy rash, mosquito bites, eczema, thrush, piles, and as a face mask.

For Body Aches and Detoxification: Mix 1 teaspoon of Costus Root powder in a glass of water and drink.

For Colds and Congestion: Mix Equal Amounts of Costus Root and Honey. Ingest 1 tsp of this paste 3 times daily. 1/2 tsp for children.

For Chest Infections: Mixed with olive oil into a loose paste and administered orally at one side of the mouth. Take 1 tablespoon of the mixture twice daily, away from mealtimes until symptoms have gone.

For Head, Sinus, and Tonsils: A pinch of Qust powder can be taken via nose inhalation 

For beautification: 1 tsp Costus Root Powder, 1 tsp Honey, 2 tsp Rosewater, mix into a paste and apply gently on the face. Leave for at least 1 hour. Avoid contact with eyes. May feel hot on the skin due to its properties.

 

Caution: As with any herb, check with a medical doctor before taking it. It is not to be taken whilst pregnant. Check with a doctor if taking blood-thinning medication or high blood pressure medication before taking it.
